Case Study: Bakery
CHALLENGE: The owner of a bakery required a skilled staff in decorating high-quality pastries, and was concerned that automating the process would sacrifice the quality and creativity he was known for. At the same time, his bakery was struggling to keep up with the
demand for his pastries, and it was financially unfeasible for him to grow a qualified staff. Other factors such as size and location of his facility compounded his challenges.
SOLUTION: RoboRose was developed as a 6-axis robot that addressed each of his issues in an innovative and effective way. First of all, the design team developed one-of-a-kind attributes into the mechanics of RoboRose to create the desired consistency and texture to the icing. As well, the PAT engineers automated specific mechanical principles so that no two products looked identical. Most impressive to the bakery owner was the level of output that RoboRose was capable of; two robots now complete 18 pastries per minute. On a current 24 hour/day, work schedule, RoboRose builds an impressive 40,000 per week. And he sells all pastries.
RESULTS: Engineering and design worked with the entrepreneur to show return on investment in easily less than one year.
